Sealaska board and management have visited with tribal member shareholders across the Southeast region, in Anchorage and Seattle. The final tribal member shareholder information meeting will be held in Everett, Washington on June 11, 2010. Two Meet the Board Slate receptions will also be held in Anchorage and Juneau. Sealaska will be offering a webcast of the 2010 Annual Meeting live from Craig, Alaska. The webcast will begin at 10 a.m. Alaska Daylight Time Saturday, June 26, 2010. 52 dance groups attend

Congratulations to Sealaska Heritage Institute and staff on another successful Celebration. Celebration 2010 was led by Tuul Gundlass Xyaal Xaadee, the Rainbow Creek Dancers. Thousands of dancers participated this year in the 52 groups that performed.

Seven artists have taken top awards at the fifth Sealaska Juried Art Competition in Juneau for best contemporary and traditional Native art.

The winners, chosen by juror David Boxley, an internationally recognized Northwest Coast Native artist, are:

Traditional Art

  • Best of Show- “Tlingit Helmet” by Wayne Price
  • 1st Place- “Copper Child” by Lily Hudson
  • 2nd Place- Untitled Ravenstail Weave by Shgen George
  • 3rd Place- “Spruce Root Hat” by Merle Anderson

Contemporary Art

  • Best of Show- “Cedar Bark Hat Box” by Merle Anderson
  • 1st Place- “Crisco Berry Surprise” by Corey Stein
  • 2nd Place- “Cycle of Life” by Chloe French
  • 3rd Place- “Raven and the Beauty of Eagle Spirit” by Lance Twitchell
